My 23andMe Results
In light of St. Patrick’s Day, I’m revealing my 23andMe results because…I’m Irish! Well, 18.7% British and Irish. Here’s how it gets broken down:
It was so interesting to see all the different regions I’m from! It gets so granular and tells you how your ancestors migrated from the beginning of time when you click to expand it.
I was disappointed that Asian regions are only broken down into four categories because it’s been too recent since people migrated from those regions, so I couldn’t tell which exact Pacific Islands I’m from. I’ve always had a hunch that I’m Filipino.
But even cooler than the ancestry part (to me) is the health and personal part. It lets you know your Carrier Status for specific things like the BRCKA gene and health predispositions – it says I have a higher likelihood of developing Type 2 Diabetes and slightly increased risk of Celiac Disease…yikes! But it’s good to know these things so you can start prevention now.
It even gets as particular as your sleep and wake-up time (I told my boss I’m not working until 11am now because my 23andMe says my natural wake up time is 8:5am…ha!) Let’s see how that works out…
I got the full test here, but there is a “light” cheaper version with just ancestry info and not health that you can find here. Have fun!
