Pantry/Laundry Room Renovation B&A Reveal + Our little tile mishap!
Woop, woop! Our pantry/laundry room is dunzo. This was an important room to me because I am SUPER organized and I had always been dreaming of a big pantry in our new house. To me, small rooms like pantries, laundry rooms and guest bathrooms (remember our guest bath renovation?), is the perfect opportunity to get fun and creative for multiple reasons:
- It’s such a small space and you won’t get bored of it too fast.
- The small space also makes it cheaper, hence you can buy more expensive and fun materials.
- If you get bored of it, it’s cheap to renovate because of the square footage, and less of a headache to remodel because it’s tucked away.
- Since it’s tucked away, it doesn’t totally compete with the other areas of your home so you don’t have to really emphasize the “flow” from room to room like you would say, the living room to the dining room.
As you can see, the “before” was just “blah” and nothing special. We laid new tile, updated the door (DIY step-by-step to come, but some more details on how I did it are below), added a butcher block counter to the washer/dryer (IKEA as-is section for the win!), and upgraded the lighting. These four things really made a world of difference!
Here is my laundry room inspo Pinterest board that I’ve been gathering for years before we remodeled! You can tell that I looove the chopping block counter and fun tile, so we did just that. I also incorporated baskets for organization and the Laundry & Co sign.
Since I’m short, I can’t reach the baskets very well so I need the things I use the most: baking soda, wool dryer balls, and dryer bags…in arms reach, which is what is in the glass jars.
We also use the pantry to store our mail, keys, a chalkboard for memos and our shared calendar of life (download my free 2019 printable calendar here), and miscellaneous stuff like dog leashes and the apron.
I used the IKEA kitchen organizer set (you can find it on Amazon here) to store the random stuff because it has hooks for the leash and apron and the canister option that I put the chalk and extra magnets in.

The Door:
I am a sucker for the finishes! I think the finishing touches like doors, hardware, and moulding really elevate a space and take it from “nice” to “WOW”. However, doors are expensive AF. Especially cute ones. And not to mention the time it takes to find the “perfect” one that actually fits in your dimensions.
So my solution to that is…make it yourself!
We bought this unfinished, NOT pre-hung door (meaning that it doesn’t come with the hinges drilled out or included, or the door and lock holes drilled out). I frosted it with Rustoleum Frosted Glass spray (I tried the stickable but it did NOT work). Then I took this Pantry sticker from Etsy and this inexpensive door knob, stained and finished the wood, and voila! Perfect door complete.
The Tile (& our learning lesson):
This tile was not always this pretty! When we were first renovating, I didn’t know I had to watch over the shoulders of everyone that touched our home…but apparently I do! I showed our tile guy the inspiration photo, gave him the tile, and he went and did his work without updating me. To my dismay, when I walked into the house upon the finished project I found the WRONG pattern! Photo below. Thankfully it was a small area so it wasn’t that expensive of a learning lesson, but now you know to be overly descriptive and detailed with your sub-contractors!
Our tile is this black & white hexagon 12×12 sheet tile that you can find at Lowe’s here.

What color grout did you use with the tile. It looks awesome
Charcoal! And thank you ☺️
I’m trying to see what was wrong with the tile pattern but, for the life of me, I can’t. It looks great
This looks awesome. Might be a weird question but what is the sq footage ( or meters) of the space? Building a home currently and this is exactly the room I need 😊
it’s around 80 square feet!
