Ranking 9 Top Natural Deodorants

I’ve been experimenting with natural deodorants for the last 8 months or so. I’ve been on the natural deodorant train since 2017, but had always settled for Toms and then upgraded to Necessaire and tried out Native. None were amazing…so I got recommendations on Instagram, bought them all, and here we are!

THE LOSERS:

Necessaire

Love the eucalyptus scent. I’m really a eucalyptus/spa smelling kinda gal, it just feels so clean to me. It was also just okay at sweat/BO. I applied twice a day which is typical for me for natural deodorants, and it didn’t seem like it was enough. BUT this one was just sooo creamy and gathers in the creases of the pits and balls up…it also leaves a lot of white marks. Word on the street is that they have since switched to more of a gel but I have yet to try it, I’m not really a gel deodorant kind of person. This one is on the pricier side at $30.

Native

I used native for about 6 months before this experiment, and it was the reason why I wanted to try others. The price is great at $13 and the scents are good, but it just isn’t that effective for sweat and BO. I found myself having to reapply constantly. The white marks weren’t as bad as the other creamy bases but were still there. I knew there had to be another way.

They have since come out with other cool products like deodorizing spray, so I think those might be worth trying.

One thing to note is that in recent years they were purchased by Proctor & Gamble. I haven’t done research to check if their ingredients have changed since.

Toms

Toms is very, very similar to Native. And an easy $6 drugstore find. The scents are just alright though.

Both of these scents from these brands I loooove!

Calm Your Pits

I wanted to give the liquid and rollerball a chance. Can’t do it. The liquid makes me feel like I’m sweating, and the rollerball gets stuck. I also thought the point of the liquid form is to not give you white marks, but it did on my skin! I didn’t think it was that effective, either. The pros to this one are that it doesn’t leave white marks on your clothes, and it doesn’t crease and ball up in the put creases. Oh, and that the brand is a small “mom-and-pop” USA business.

Athena Club

Another liquid/water base one. This one doesn’t really have a rollerball inside, though. I’m not sure what it is…maybe a silicone thing, but it’s very wet. In any case, I don’t like wet. It also smells very chemical-ey and has propylene glycol which is an undecided-upon ingredient in the natural skincare space. The price is right, though at $13! I can say it was very effective for sweat/BO though and left zero white marks, so if you’re dipping your toes into the natural deodorant space and like the wet deodorants, this one is worth a shot.

Fat and the Moon

This one is a cream that you use your fingers into because it’s in a glass jar. Great on the recyclability aspect but ugh. I just can’t use my fingers. I hate my hands being dirty and having to wash my hands after applying. It does smell good, have great ingredients, and is a small business.

THE WINNERS!

SECOND RUNNER UP: Each & Every

This one was recommended by a follower. It’s a small mom-and-pop type of brand…and I realllllly liked it! It’s a little more expensive than Native and some others at $20 but it did last longer than both Native and Schmidt’s. It is a cream base but way more solid than the other cream-bases on this list and is pretty good about white marks. When using this one I apply twice a day and it’s effective.

I only tried the citrus and vetiver scent, and I think I was not prepared for what the combo smells like on your pits all day. It’s been growing on me though, but I think it’s an acquired scent. I’d like to try some of their other scents for sure.

8.5 out of 10, only because I didn’t get a chance to try different scents.

RUNNER UP: Salt & Stone

This one’s texture and feel was very similar to Necessaire, just a little less creamy. The scent was SO good – smelled just like Santal 33. It’s also very effective. Love the packaging and branding, too. This one was my second favorite just because it’s a creamy base so it leaves white marks and can get messy. It also falls apart at the very end of the stick.

WINNER: Schmidt’s

I’ve loved every scent so far, but my favorite is the rose. The only con is that it doesn’t last long…probably only 3 weeks. But it’s one of the most inexpensive at $13! I just buy a few at a time so I don’t have to keep purchasing. It goes on VERY clean…the white marks aren’t as bad as the ones with creamy bases but are still inevitably there with a cream base.
