The 7 Projects We’re Doing in 2019
We’ve already done soooo much to our house in such a little amount of time (we completely gutted and renovated 90% of our house ourselves – including knocking down walls – in about 3 months) so I’m already proud of what we’ve done, we just have our home stretch of the finishing touches. If you want to see my inspiration for our home reno, here is my Pinterest board!
Honestly, this list looks like a breeze compared to what we’ve done but I know I will find any excuse not to do it! I’m writing this out because I know we will probably get sidetracked especially with wedding stuff, so I want to stay on track! Also writing it so you know what to look forward to on the blog this year 🙂
Patio Posts
Our patio needs some dimension and a little more character. You can see our current patio “before and after” below (excuse the Winter grass and dog toys), but I just want a little more to it! I will post a full before and after of the backyard when we have it all finished. We’re planning on doing this to the patio posts with cedar:
Finish Pantry/Laundry Room
We’ve done a lot to the pantry/laundry room so far: re-did the tile, built the butcher block counter, and refinished the new door we bought. Buuuut, we had a little oopsie with our laundry tile…stay tuned for the laundry post for details on that. So I want to fix our tile, add the lighting I bought (these in bronze), finish frosting the glass on the door we refinished because I can’t stand looking at all the mess in there, and do a little more organizing.
Garage Organization
We were lucky buying this house because our garage came finished with storage solutions and painted drywall. However we have a lot of tools and DIY resources that don’t fit in our shed so we need a really good system. We’ve been eyeing this slat board from Home Depot for all the tools, and thinking about doing a fold-up work bench too.
Any suggestions on garage organization are greatly appreciated! We will probably do this one in the Spring before it gets too hot.
Garden
We have a huuuge side yard that gets sun 24/7 so we are planning on building a greenhouse and hydroponics system. Again, trying to do this in the Spring before it gets too hot and when it’s the best to plan, but just now realizing that the Spring is coming up so close, ah! We already have mint and basil in our front yard and oregano out back and they all are growing like weeds! We’re planning on planting:
- red and yellow onions
- garlic
- avocado
- lettuce
- shallots
- scallions
- herbs: cilantro, parsley, thyme, oregano, basil
Any tips appreciated!
Finish Guest Room
The guest room is really the room I walk into and I’m like “OMG I can’t believe we have a room that’s so unfinished” except it only feels unfinished because I put paint swatches on the wall when we were painting the guest bath because I thought we could tackle that project at the same time, but I over estimated myself (story of my life). What we’re planning on doing with this room is just shiplapping the back wall behind the headboard and painting the rest of the room to match. It’s eventually going to be a future baby room so I think I want it bright and white…what do we feel about the white immediately to the left of the cow skull?!
Redo Some Tile “Uh Oh’s”
Like I mentioned in the pantry, and we have some in the master bath to fix! Oh, the joys of renovating 🙂 I will post more about this soon and some lessons we learned in tile.
Fix our entry cove
Danny wants to put an Our Lady of Grace statue in here…’nuff said. We’re covering it. At first, I wanted to just cover it with a long mirror or something, but it’s too close to our world map on the wall adjacent and I’m feeling simplicity lately.
Finish out our window treatments
The person who sold us the house had really great blinds in the house which I love! However some of them don’t match :/ so we’re just redoing the common area ones with roman shades – the same ones we did in our kitchen.
